Bishop’s Barrel No. 18 is a balance of spice and sweet, an Oat Wine aged in WhistlePig Rye Whiskey barrels for nine months. The base beer is an English-style barleywine with oats added to the grain bill. It is rich in toffee and caramel notes with a touch of chocolate sweetness. The oats blend well with the sweetness and add body and mouthfeel. English-style barleywines are typically a bit sweeter than American-style barleywines, and we like the spice from the rye whiskey barrels to balance it out. This is the second beer in the Bishop’s Barrel series we’ve aged in WhistlePig barrels. A limited amount of bottles will be in grocery and liquor stores.
