Old Pretender has a huge aroma of rum derived from the aging process in rum barrels. The mouth-feel is acidic and dry, yet heavy on the malt, from floor malted Scottish Barley brought in from Scotland for this beer. Notes of dark fruits and cherry swarm the palate, but quickly subside to an earthy, scotch-like smokey layer of goodness. You are then left with a sensation of 11% ABV coating your throat and warming you up from within.
