The aroma of this beer is of slightly roasted malt. A brief taste of caramel is followed by fruitiness from an English ale yeast which blends into flavors of dark chocolate and coffee. Hops make a brief appearance as finishing bitterness, but do not have a strong impact on the flavor of the beer. Despite the complex flavors of this beer it is drinkable and smooth without being heavy.

This brown ale is more similar to English beers than to many American brown ales which have a prominent hop character. The roasted character of this beer is present, but in the background. This beer has enough layers of flavor to drink alone, but will also not overwhelm food.
