Black Pearl consists of the base base for Imperial Coconut Porter that has been set aside to age in rum barrels for 6-9 months. The additional time on the wood, which previously held handcrafted Maui rum from Hali'imaile Distilling, lends an added booziness and vanilla flavors to the viscous base beer. After its time in the barrel, a 3-day recirculation on toasted coconut chips softens some of the astringencies and booze for a pleasant mouthfeel and flavor.
