Our famed purple “grape drink” returns for the third year with some new twists to the recipe. We used organically grown grapes called Foch from Jack Rabbit Hill, and allowed the fermentation to happen naturally with no added yeasts, giving the beer a complex, funky, sour flavor and aroma. The Foch grapes are a red grape variety, and they give the beer a brilliant maroon purple color. Additionally, we used an ingredient called Cuitlacoche, a delicacy referred to as Mexican oysters that is a kind of noble rot of corn, and some mildly spicy Marash Chili peppers for complexity. The beer had lots of sour acidic flavors, grape tannins and juice, and beer like carbonation also. It is truly a mystifying beverage the defies categorization.
