Based loosely on the Smokestack Series The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the angel's share of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

To pay tribute to our new familial ties, brewmasters Steven Pauwels and Phil Leinhart chose to create a Saison, the traditional Belgian farmhouse ale. They began by brewing two separate batches of beer, both at Boulevard Brewing Company, each with a grain bill of pale malt, oats, rye, corn, and wheat, subtly spiced with coriander, grains of paradise, and dried peels of lemons and oranges. Perle was used as a bittering hop with Safir and Saaz added for aroma. Each of the two batches was fermented with the unique house yeast from our respective breweries. The batches were then blended post-fermentation, allowing both of the distinctive yeast signatures to manifest in the finished beer. The result is crisp and bready, with a bracing hoppiness and a hint of spice lingering in the background. Join us in raising a glass to family.

With an amazing baseball season fresh in our memory, we brewed Crown Town Ale to celebrate the inspiring achievements of our hometown team. Weeks before the last out on October 29th, we recognized our need and desire to brew a beer as a fan-to-fan celebration with you, the fine people of Kansas City. The electric energy present during the month of October is something to be commemorated. To that end, 750 ml bottles of Crown Town Ale will only be available in the Greater Kansas City Area. Crown Town Ale, stylistically, is a Golden Ale featuring pale, honey, and Munich malts balanced by a subtle bitterness imparted by Magnum hops. To complement a crisp, citrusy hop aroma provided by Lemon Drop, Saphir, and Northern Brewer hops, we added dried orange peel to the wort right at the end of the boil during the brewing process. Fermentation was carried out by our house ale strain, used in perennial favorites Unfiltered Wheat Beer and Pale Ale, to create light, fruity esters. At 6.2 ABV and 25 IBUs, Crown Town Ale was brewed to be a refreshing beer worthy of everyday drinking, but special enough to celebrate such an amazing run. Delicate in nature, Crown Town Ale is not meant to be cellared or stored for extended periods of time. Please enjoy this celebratory beer while it’s fresh.

Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. In the glass, dark and turbulent clouds gather. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a veritable monsoon of flavor, with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of hops, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment. This dark, assertively-hopped ale features a special blend of malts, giving it a rich, deep color without adding roastiness, and allowing the distinctive tang of rye to shine through. Hops take center stage, however, with Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra applied generously in dry hopping. The piqant, fruity characteristics of the hops perfectly complement the rye. The rich, hop forward character of Grainstorm allows for favorable pairings with strongly-flavored dishes such as spicy sausage, BBQ meats, peppery cheeses, and game.

Imperial Stout X – Coffee Style: Imperial Stout Availability: 750 mL Bottles Locations: Try our Beer Finder This first edition of our Imperial Stout “X” series, incorporates freshly roasted Ethiopian Sidamo beans from our friends and neighbors at The Roasterie. After fermentation is complete and the beer has been crash cooled with the yeast removed, our brewers transfer Imperial Stout into a sanitized stainless tank that has been fitted with bags of coarsely ground coffee beans. At this point, the beer is at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Infusing the coffee at this temperature is similar to the cold toddy method of brewing coffee. The cold toddy method extracts far fewer acids from the coffee resulting in remarkably smooth, yet concentrated flavors. We allow the beer to rest on the coffee for a minimum of 24 hours before removing the beer from the coffee beans. Imperial Stout X – Coffee is not barrel aged. The resulting beer is a marriage of huge, round, chocolate and caramel notes from the base beer, with smooth layers of sweet citrus and floral flavors and aromas from the coffee. Imperial Stout was brewed that received freshly ground cinnamon during the boil on the brewhouse. This batch will be blended with tanks of Imperial Stout that are infused with dried pasilla negro and ancho chiles as well as cacao nibs. The chiles and cacao nibs were stuffed into porous bags and suspended in sanitized stainless steel tanks. Finished beer is transferred onto the chiles and nibs and allowed to rest for 24 hours of contact time. Following the infusion, the beer is transferred to a blending tank and blended with the cinnamon spiced batch.

Like India Pale Ale, Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high percentages of malt and hops to help them withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, and oats. A portion of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels, then blended with fresh ale before bottling.
