This is the first Tighthead beer created by our brewer Adam. He started with a blend of 7 malts, hopped it up with Galaxy and Centennial hops, fermented it dry with our house ale yeast, then aged it in second-use Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for 5 months. The resulting complex strong ale has a whiskey-like nose with vanilla and caramel notes and a bitter dark chocolate flavor with a dry, warming finish. “THIS IS some AWESOME SAUCE!”

The name coming from the reference to the playful, improvisational transitions between Grateful Dead songs Scarlet Begonias and Fire on the Mountain, has a nice balance of malt sweetness from caramel malt and subtle toasty notes from roasted barley. The beer is brewed with American Ale yeast, and the hops are East Kent Goldings, paying tribute to its heritage as an Irish Red Ale.
