Official Rules and Registration Information

*** MUST BE 21 TO PARTICIPATE

*** REGISTRATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY 8/1

Note that all Can Wood Derby rules are set at the local race level. There are no Official Can Wood Derby (Pinewood Derby) Rules that are used nationwide. For our race we will be using a simple, clear set of rules. If there are any questions regarding the rules, please contact the race manager listed at the bottom of page. We will inspect each car at weigh-in on race day. We will weigh each car with the "official scale" and turn back any car that exceeded 6.0 oz. We will then do a quick visual inspection of each car against the following inspection points:

CAR DIMENSION RULES --------
The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body so it does not rub on the track.

DERBY CAR WEIGHT RULES --------
The car shall not exceed 6.0 ounces.
The official race scale that is used at car check-in shall be considered final.

CAR MODIFICATION RULES --------
The official pine wood block must be used. The block may be shaped in any way that is desired.
Official wheels, included in your kit, must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seams and imperfections from the wheels.
The axles may be altered, polished and lubricated. (Graphite and Dry Lubricants Only)
The car must include the beer can included in your kit or a can of your own but it must be recognizable that a beer can was used. Other beer items may be used but are optional.

OTHER RACE RULES --------
Once a car passes inspection and is entered into the race, only race committee members can touch it.
If the car loses a wheel, or is otherwise damaged, the racer shall have 5 minutes to make repairs.
Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete.
The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these rules.
You may race as part of a team but only one person can claim the title attached to a car. For example 1st place goes to Jon Smith with Team Amato’s. We will not list everyone’s name from a team on winning material so it is best that everyone on the team makes a car rather than multiple people working on one car. If multiple people decide to enter one car together, the team name can be the one listed on winning and promo materials.

PRIZE CATEGORIES ------
1st, 2nd, 3rd Place for...

Best Designed Car
Most Unfortunate Loss
Chumpionship Bracket Winner
