1st Annual Screaming Buffalo Wing-Eating Contest

July 29, 2016 6:00PM - 7:00PM at Wingman Birdz & Brewz

Wingman Birdz & Brewz in downtown Walla Walla announces the 1st Annual Screaming Buffalo Wing-Eating Contest in celebration of National Chicken Wing Day on July 29, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.On July 29, Walla Walla’s hottest wing sauce will make its debut. The menu at Wingman includes more than twenty wing sauces, ranging in spice level from mild (#1 Chick Buffalo) to hot (#4 Squawking Buffalo). The new #9 Screaming Buffalo wing sauce includes several familiar peppers (habanero, jalapeno, serrano), but also includes the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Pepper – a pepper that come with a warning label to wear goggles and gloves while handling – and is many times hotter than its milder cousins. “We are looking for ten brave souls willing to face a truly spectacular eating challenge,” says Brendon Mendoza, owner of Wingman Birdz & Brewz. “You can’t even believe how hot this sauce is.”Pepper heat is measured on the Scoville Scale. A jalapeño, for example, rates between 1,500 and 10,000 Scoville units. A habanero pepper is dramatically hotter, between 300,000 and 500,000 Scoville units. The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Pepper? Anywhere from 1,200,000 to 2,000,000 Scoville units – 100 to 200 times hotter than a jalapeño! The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion was considered the hottest pepper in the world in 2012, but has since lost the title to other hotter peppers.Ten contestants will compete to eat as many wings coated in the #9 Screaming Buffalo sauce as they can in three minutes. The first place winner will receive ultimate bragging rights, their name on a trophy, and free wings for a year! Second place wins free wings for six months.
