(The short of it)
Black Pussy is a group of rock n’ roll pot-smoking fun-loving hippies that are passionate about art, creativity and the dynamic human spirit which refuses to submit. They encourage all ages and creeds to take the ride with them.

(The long of it)
For Dustin Hill, the creator and songwriter of the band, Black Pussy sounded like a fantastic name. It encapsulates exactly what the band is: a psychedelic, ’70s-influenced, hide-your-daughters-because-they’re-coming-to-town rock ‘n’ roll band that sounds like Tarantino directing a Thin Lizzy video in the low desert.

For the past few years, the group has continuously headed out on North American tours, including a full U.S. and Canadian stint opening for ex-Kyuss legends Vista Chino in 2013 as well as sharing the stage with Sleep, Red Fang, Danava, Yob, Boots Electric, Black Tusk, Mothership and Dead Meadow. Their rigorous touring regimen has rightfully earned them the tagline, “ON TOUR FOREVER.” The group has also spent the last three years recording the band’s blend of heavy, psychedelic rock songs with not only Portland recording engineer Adam Pike (Red Fang, Norska, Black Elk, etc.) but also the legendary Kyuss founding drummer and multi-instrumentalist Brant Bjork.

Black Pussy approaches their music style with influences across three decades of rock: the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The result is a cohesive blend of Kyuss, Hawkwind, The Cars, Monster Magnet and Queens of the Stone Age. Their classic, upbeat and relentlessly hooky tracks embrace traditional pop structure within heavy rock and led to Hill coining the phrase “stoner-pop”. Their catchy music tends to seduce anyone, even those who wander in a club after seeing the intriguing band name on the marquis. There is no contrived contention, just fun, love and good tunes. Everyone is invited to this party.

The 2012 debut album, On Blonde, was written and mostly recorded by Hill alone, though guitarist Ryan McIntire, drummer Dean Carroll, bassist Aaron Poplin and keyboardist Chief O’Dell later joined the band. The record kicks off with the rip of a bong and sounds like a drug-riddled midnight misadventure in a ’70s muscle car. The track “Blow Some Steam Off” landed a spot on the February 2013 Metal Hammer compilation. 2013 also saw a split release from Black Pussy and LA-based Biblical Proof Of UFOs: a contact high-inducing, 22-minute psychedelic opus entitled “Galaxies.”

Magic Mustache, the brand new full length album, was released on February 17th of 2015 and the band is touring this Spring, Summer and Fall in support of it. The album has received much acclaim and had premieres from Noisey, Decibel, Terrorizor and Metalsucks.net. This exposure led to a backlash from politically correct new wave feminist groups seeking to shut down the band online with misconstrued accusations of misogyny and racism. Responding to this, the band released a statement: “…Ultimately, the music and the message is what should be scrutinized rather than the clothes we wear or the name we chose. But whatever. Trolls are gonna troll, complainers are going to complain and people who get it are going to keep on getting it.”

Scheduled for an August 18th release is an EP of 5 songs entitled Where The Eagle Flies. The first single is a cover version of Blue Oyster Cult’s classic “Don’t Fear The Reaper” and with the premiere of the music video from Blank TV, this release offers an eclectic collection of rarities. As the band grows, so will their musical footprint, ultimately placing them in a category all their own. Black Pussy is doing what it does best: sending you on a cosmic journey through time and space, blurring the lines of psychedelic mysticism and reality.

Black Pussy is setting out on the third leg of their summer tour starting August 20th and ending in October with support from fellow Northwestern rock trio Ape Machine.
