Boy Harsher:
BOY HARSHER is a dark electronic duo that produces gritty dance beats infused with ethereal vocals, creating a sound that is eerie, intense and incredibly danceable. Augustus Muller develops the underbelly of sound with minimal beats and grinding synths, where Jae Matthews whispers, screams and chants on top. Together, the music created is somewhere between industrial, drone and confessional storytelling.

Konvoi:
Konvoi's music feels like a fistfight. On its full-length, self-titled debut, the Boone quartet stammers and snarls and shouts, with Sean Bos tossing off imprecations over a band that harnesses the power of hardcore to the blessed structural instability of post-punk. As blown-out bass lashes whip-like against drums that forsake neither punch nor power, David Cate wields his guitar like an amorphous weapon, capable of strangling, stabbing, bludgeoning, and biting. Some of these songs deliver big, burly hooks, while others tend to delight in their defiance of such conventions by splitting melodies and licks into a half-dozen broken pieces. Issued tonight by Chapel Hill's Snot Releases, Konvoi is one of the state's essential records this year. -Grayson Haver Currin

Minthill:
Minthill is a place. It’s a place where deconstructed tape loops, rescued from dusty cabinets in forgotten old warehouses mingle with part abstract pop and obstruct melody. It’s a place that Angela Saylor knows very well, and for the better part of the last decade she has constructed her own mint hill. Part space odyssey, part femme worship, part spatial relations with the years passed. Minthill is a place where all wild things go to live, and olfactory gets the ever seldom nod of preservation, desolation shines, and chrome is brick.
