Least of These Carolinas Funraiser -Updated

Over the past three months, Sammy's Pub of Belmont has hosted a Celebrity Chef event series, wherein, a guest "chef" will trade in their everyday hat to serve up entrees to help fundraise for a local charity of their choosing. Guest chefs are invited into the restaurant kitchen and allowed to pick from a selection of meals to be served for lunch with the money that is raised to support the non-profit. The response from the community thus far has been tremendous. Since December, we have held three events:

December 2016 Mr. Billy Walkowiak - $250 for the Gaston YMCA
January 2017 Mr. Doug Luckett - $500 for Gaston Hospice
February 2017 Sheriff Alan Cloninger - $650 for Gaston County Sheriff's Explorer Post (yet to be donated).

This month's Celebrity Chef was slated to be Commissioner Tracy Philbeck in support of Least of These Carolinas, a nonproft started by Susanna Kavannaugh and Michelle Buchanan to serve foster children and families in need in the Gaston County community. However, in light of recent comments by some community members and after consulting with representatives from Least of These Carolinas, Commissioner Philbeck has chosen to withdraw from his role as Celebrity Chef. The event will still take place as planned, but Philbeck decided that too much focus was being taken away from the intended purpose, which is to support the children who will benefit from the fundraiser.
On behalf of Sammy's Pub, we would like to thank Commissioner Philbeck for his support of our establishment and Least of These Carolinas. Sammy's would also like to thank those community members for raising their concerns and especially those who have taken their voice a step further by donating directly to Least of These Carolinas.
We are excited to host another Celebrity Chef event and we encourage the community to show their support by joining us for lunch on March 28, or consider making a donation to Least of These Carolinas and the children who desperately need our help.
