What is a field experience?
Catching and identifying mummichogs, killfish and flounder on the back of a reasearch vessel in the Chincoteague Bay. Standing knee-deep in the marsh mud, exploring one of the most ecologically productive ecosystems on earth. Building Oyster Castles (c) and planting Spartina alterniflora at the Living Shoreline to protect local communities from rising sea levels. These educational and inspiring experiences often turn into "ah-ha!" moments where concepts taught in the classroom connect to real-life situations.

Chincoteague Bay Field Station is an environmental education center and field station located in Wallops Island, Virginia. CBFS provides hands on, feet wet opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds including K-12 field trips, youth camps, college summer courses, and more. Their commitment to the community includes the SPARK program which offers free opportunities for families with children in elementary, middle, and high school to learn through nature in a collaborative and innovative way. CBFS serves to educate the next generation of environmental stewards and celebrate the rich coastal ecosystems of the mid-Atlantic region.

Eastern Shore Coastal Roasting Co.
You'll find ESCR Coffee down in Northampton County, a wonderful community of small business owners, farmers, artisans and watermen. Folks thought their dream of starting a specialty coffee company was crazy. Jamie had been living in Utah and had recently moved back home to the Shore. Kristin, a Mississippi girl, had moved to the Shore a year earlier via Alaska. Soon after, they began pursuing the roasting business full time and quickly grasped the importance of conveying their local message through their specialty products and sustainable practices. They've worked with and supported countless small businesses and given back to their community for over 11 years.

Jessica Battista Art
Jessica graduated from the Hartford Art School in 2015 with a BFA degree in Illustration. Soon after, the native New Englander migrated down to Virginia's Eastern Shore. She is New Ravenna's Photography and Marketing Specialist. Jessica can often be found hunched over her favorite sketchbook. She paints and draws for her own entertainment and also as a freelance illustrator. Gaining inspiration from the natural world, she creates her own whimsical interpretations as a means of translation. Jessica's work is always sincere, yet never too serious.
