With a unique blend of alt-country and americana, North Texas’ own Matthew McNeal has begun making a name for himself throughout the region. With conceptually-strong songwriting alongside a vibrant live show, the 22-year old finds himself traveling across the country playing everywhere he can- never seeming out of place. Working with Grammy award-winning McKenzie Smith (Midlake/Sarah Jaffe/St. Vincent) and Joey McClellan (Israel Nash), McNeal’s most recent release ‘Compadre’ has already begun to generate steady buzz throughout the world of americana music. From songs of lonesome heartache to hopeful, road-worn ballads, McNeal’s style has him primed to be a songsmith with a bright future. ‘I just want to write honest songs that people can relate to,’ McNeal adds. ‘There’s enough sadness in music these days; I want to write about darker things but bring hope into the picture. I believe live shows should get people thinking, but overall it should be a good time- a bunch of like-minded people getting to groove to an artist they can believe in.’
