Sour Minded / Cascade

Sour Minded featuring Cascade Brewing!!

Cascade Brewing is a pioneer of the NW style sour beer movement. They are the definition of artisanal brewing: not bound by stylistic guidelines, just their imagination and accessible ingredients.

Cascade Brewing was founded in 1998 by owner Art Larrance and brewmaster Ron Gansberg. Together, Art and Ron put their 40 years combined beer experience to work. Both wanted to focus on beers that offered an intense sensory experience other than hops.

They considered what they could draw upon from the region: an abundant supply of wine barrels from the nearby wine country, and access to delicious and plentiful local fruit.

They chose to create sour ales. Employing lactobacillus, an acid bacteria that produces moderate levels of acidity and sour flavors, they began their sour journey in 2005.

Cascade's blending house currently houses more than 1,400 French oak, Kentucky Bourbon and Northwest wine barrels plus nine foudres filled with wheats, blonds, quads, reds, browns and porters that are aged and blended into magical elixirs. These beers have aggressive tart notes that are balanced by residual sugars, fruits, spices and the oak used.

On tap will be:

2015 Sang Noir - a blend of imperial spiced red ales aged in bourbon and wine barrels with Bing cherries for nearly two years. 9.9% abv

2015 Sang Royal - various red ales aged in oak with cabernet sauvignon grapes, then blended with red ales that were aged in port and pinot noir barrels. 10.12% abv
