Sour Minded

Join us Thursday, June 1st as we kick off our new sour beer series Sour Minded. In this series we will dive into the different varieties of sours, explore the different yeast and bacteria strains used in sour beer production and highlight some of the best producers of sour beer in the world, with a different brewery being featured approximately every six weeks.

For our inagural event we are featuring Crooked Stave Artisian Beer Project, who have been at the forefront of American Sour Beer Production since 2010.

Crooked Stave is the culmination of “Founder and Brettanomyces Guru” Chad Yakobson’s open source Master’s research, The Brettanomyces Project. Crooked Stave’s progressive approach to brewing blends science and art through creativity and passion. The artistic creations, all of which use Brettanomyces yeast and mature in oak, result in beers of extraordinary complexity.

Crooked Stave uses traditional brewing methods to pay homage to the old-world styles that result in flavor profiles of extraordinary complexity. Each Crooked Stave beer is fermented with the wild yeast Brettanomyces, which lends a dry, earthy character, affectionately known as “funk.” Nearly all Crooked Stave beers are conditioned in barrels or oak foeders with a house mixed sour culture, rendering beers with balanced acidity and smooth vinous notes.

2016 Blueberry Nightmare on Brett - A dark sour ale aged in whiskey barrels with whole fruit

2015 L'Brett d'Apricot - A golden sour ale aged in oak foeders on 4,000lbs of Colorado Palisade Apricots

2015 L'Brett d'Blueberry - A blend of golden sour beer from various barrels, aged with 3,500lbs of fruit in oak foeders

2016 Petite Sour Rosè - A wild ale aged in oak barrels on fruit skins

2016 Hop Savant - An American Brettanomyces IPA with Galaxy hops

2015 Blueberry Origins - A sour brown ale aged in oak barrels with blueberries

2016 L'Brett D'or - A dry-hopped surreal golden ale aged in oak barrels (bottle pour)

2016 Surette Reserva Prunus Persica - A golden sour ale aged in oak barrels with peaches (bottle pour)
