SSB Melee Tournament

The Scoop:
• Tournament will take place on Wednesday, January 24th at 8pm
• The tournament is free to play
• Register online to guarantee your seat in the event (https://theboxcarbar.com/raleigh/tournaments/)
• Registered players must check in with staff between 7:00-7:30pm on the event date to confirm seat
• Online registration will close once we fill 32 seats, but we’ll open on-site registration from 7:30-7:45pm on the event date to fill any open seats
• Must be 21+
• Prizes will be awarded to the winner(s).
• We’ll allow any standard gamecube controllers, should you prefer to bring your own, as long as it isn’t a controller that is malfunctioning in an advantageous way.

Tournament Rules:
• This tournament will be played by the official SSBM rules for 1-on-1 tournaments (https://www.ssbwiki.com/Tournament_rulesets_(SSBM))with a few modifications/exceptions:
• 32 player double elimination
• Sets will be played best 2 out of 3 (3 out of 5 for • Winner’s/Loser’s Bracketed Finals, 4 out of 7 for Grand Finals)
• Each match played with “Timed Stock”, 4 lives, 8 mins (see wiki for more details)
• Items turned off
• First match of each set is played on one of 5 neutral stages chosen via stage striking (see wiki for details). First strike will be determined via coin toss.
• We will NOT be using double blind character selection unless requested by players.
• The loser of the each match in a set will choose the next stage, then the winner chooses his/her character, then the loser chooses his/her character: (a) Loser can pick any neutral stage or a counterpick stage (b) Loser cannot choose any stage that has already been played in the current set (if best of 7 comes to the last match, any stage can be selected since there are only 6 legal stages) (c) In all best of 3 sets, the winner may ban one stage from the opponent’s selection. No banning in best of 5 and best of 7 sets.
• The following stages are neutral in 1-on-1: Battlefield, Dream Land, Final Destination, Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi’s Story
• The following stage is counterpick only in 1-on-1: Pokemon Stadium
• All other stages are banned
• Banned Moves/Glitches (see wiki for more details): Freeze Glitch, Yo-yo Glitch, Name Entry Glitch (and any derivatives), Soul Breaker Glitch, Repeated Rising Pound, Repeated Peach Bomber on a wall, Luigi Ladder, Wobbling
