Strange Brew With Beer Tasting

August 29, 2017 8:30PM - 11:00PM at House of Wax

Co-presented by Folksbier Brewery, featuring a special beer menu!

Created by SCTV's writers in order to pointedly satirize CBC's requirement for "Canadian-specific content" imposed on them, Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas created the ultimate Canadian stereotypes Bob & Doug McKenzie and (inadvertently) created the variety show's most long lasting characters. And good thing too, because the beer-swilling "hosers" success led to STRANGE BREW, an hilarious farce that has managed to fly under the radar in the rest of North America. Loosely based on HAMLET, the McKenzie brothers scheme their way into a job at the Elsinore Brewery, where they find that the evil Brewmaster Smith (Max von Sydow) is endlessly conspiring to take over the world with his mind-controlling brew, using the former brewmaster's daughter Pam (Lynne Griffith) and former hockey-great Jean "Rosie" LaRose (Angus MacInnes) as pawns, among others. And, of course, the brothers have to try and find a way to save the day... even though they'll probably do it on accident. Hilarious and refreshingly light in comparison to the raunchy comedies that were popular at the time, STRANGE BREW is a great time, and the carefully curated beer selection will only make it more memorable!

Folksbier Brauerei has been brewing beer in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn since in March of 2014. Their focus is on well balanced beers that take the best parts of traditional old world brewing and combine them with new world ingredients, influences and flavors.
