Terror Tuesday: City of the Living Dead

May 30, 2017 10:15PM - 1:15AM at Bear Vs Bull

Words like “inspiring” and “life changing” are not typically used to to describe a movie with a scene where someone vomits up their digestive track. But we’re talking about Lucio Fulci’s CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, and there’s nothing typical about that. A priest hangs himself in a graveyard! A doorway opens! The darkest gutters of the Netherworld are unleashed, as Christopher “PIECES” George battles for humanity against witchcraft, zombies, and a supernatural sex-doll! Along with THE BEYOND, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD is one of Fulci’s most joyous culminations of comic book pulp, elegant design, and ferocious gore. Add an ectoplasmic prog-rock score from Fabio Frizzi, insanely fun dubbing, and a goddamn MAGGOT STORM, and you’ve got no reason to complain about anything ever again. (Joseph A. Ziemba)
