61 Ghosts * Generation Landslide! * Worn out Souls * TheLaybacks

January 26, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

61 Ghosts http://www.61ghosts.com/ Primal Rock and Roll with Blues at the Roots. Joe Mazzari and Dixie Deadwood, a duo based out of the Northeastern USA, draw upon their own personal musical influences, their combined passion and need to create a style of music all their own - one that's influenced by the urban streets and the restless spirits of the Mississippi Hills. Each had honed their own sound through years on the road: Mazzari with his poignant lyrics, melodies and rock guitar, Dixie with her bare-knuckled approach to drumming. Together, Joe and Dixie mix steamy grooves, razor-sharp dynamics and high energy. "Bonnie & Clyde of Rock n' Roll!” Generation Landslide! (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/GENERATIONlandslide-146761458684303/ GENERATION:landslide! is a band whose voice comes from the heart and soul of Houston, TX. There's a raw element here seemingly absent from a great deal of the current bands that are touring and trying to make it. When I say "raw", I don't mean idiotic monkeys bashing things, needles peaking and your ears going into shock. No. These people are songwriters...artists...audiophiles. They have a great passion for music and the common man. They are the champions of "garage"-rock and psychedelia; a band of seekers. The band consists of Tom Underwood on Guitar/Vocals, Kathie Muncy on bass/Vocals, Wil Hudgens on guitar/vocals, and Charles Zittle on drums/vocals. The band's first recording effort, "Tomorrow Was Yesterday", was engineered by Steve Bundrick at (the now closed) Z-Lab Studios in Houston, TX (Bundrick has also filled in on drums from time to time). It features the guest talents of Greg Trifaldo, Greg Varhaug, and David Watkins. Tom's songwriting could be considered somewhere in the neighborhood of Warren Zevon, Lou Reed, and Tom Petty. There's a strong pop sensibility with a raw punk edge. Now, currently engaged in working on material for their next recording effort, the group will be taking a break from live performances until sometime next year. GENERATION:landslide! returns to playing out starting on March 19 at Notsuoh, we will be debuting our newest member, Sellers Thomas. Sellers will be replacing longtime guitarist Wil Hudgens who has left to pursue other musical ventures Worn out Souls (San Antonio, TX) https://www.facebook.com/thewornoutsouls/ Worn out souls is a mixture of San Antonio veteran musicians coming together to form a blues americana infused sound like no other. The Laybacks (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/laybackgrinds/ The Laybacks are a 3-piece trio of guitar, bass and drums playing mainly blues and rock & roll. You could say we play a little country, reggae, jazz, etc… but not venturing too far away from our roots. Some say it's all just really rock & roll. As Muddy Waters use to say, “the Blues are the roots, the rest are the fruits” Doors 8pm $10

Redneck Dadrock World Tour Live At Rudyard's

January 27, 8:00p.m. - 12:00a.m.

Charles Ellsworth is bringing his 'Redneck Dadrock World Tour' to Houston Jan. 27 for a show at Rudyard's British Pub. Charles will most likely be sharing the evening (in no particular order) with Steph Cooksey Music, Clay Melton Music, and Mr. Quiet Morning & the Calamity himself Sean J. Ramos. $8 at the door, or in advance. 21 & over only. - - - Clay Melton plays guitar. That's the short of it, but in no way does putting things that simple under sell his abilities. Especially since a recent Houston Press review referred to those abilities as "better than most." Now take a second to think about just how many guitar players a music critic must know and let that sink in. Steph Cooksey's first EP stems musically and lyrically from the power of being an outspoken woman from the south. The songs interlace blues runs, jazz melodics, and haunting harmonies. She writes about love and heartbreak, hope and the human condition. And if that's not enough Steph also fronts the band Tipsy Kitten. Charles Ellsworth is currently playing his way from New York to Australia. His music has been described as "Americana Noir," "sad bastard," and "a triumph for American songwriting." Charles released his sophomore album, Cesaréa, in the summer of 2017. It features the pedal steel talents of Jon Rauhouse and received airplay from stations across the country but failed to make his own mother's end of the year "best of" list. Sean J. Ramos is a Houston native who's been performing and playing music around town for over 20 years. If you haven't seen Sean's band Quiet Morning & the Calamity the odds are still good you've seen him play any one of a long list of instruments in any one lot of a long list of different bands or theater companies.

The pair spin ten stories that stretch out across the deserts of the southwest, blending outlaw grit with a raw streak of self-awareness. The format could best be described as an “un-split.” Ellsworth and Draper, who are best friends, alternate songs on the record, but the songs share a sonic palette and instrumentation. Ellsworth’s voice is the more conventional of the two–a breathy baritone clear and strong enough that it wouldn’t be out of place in a straight-ahead pop-country outfit. Draper’s attack is deep and mournful, a highly ornamented bass that shows versatility when he jumps an octave and a half to belt harmonies on the title track. Each man’s voice and a bright acoustic guitar sit squarely at the center of any given song, backed at various times by crackling drums, lilting cello and fiddle, a clanging Telecaster, and vocal harmonies by Josaleigh Pollett. Salt Lake City‘s production is stellar: it bounces manically from stripped-to-the-bone stillness to lush washes of compressed cymbals and strings. Ellsworth and Draper are credited with bass and drums, respectively, and their chemistry as a rhythm section is impressive. The tone for the orchestration across the board is definitely dramatic, but not overdone. What sets this pair apart from the legion of young practitioners of Americana is the diversity of influences that come through on the record. For every anthemic moment that brings to mind Waylon or Bruce, there’s an entangled strain reminiscent of Mount Eerie or The National that drifts up from beneath a shadowy shroud. The same contrast emerges lyrically. Ellsworth writes with an approach that’s full of big ideas (“She said believe in yourself, ’cause there ain’t no one else. But I’m still holding on to this love I know that you felt when I held you in my arms.”) and builds narratives that are moving and relatable. Draper’s lyrics are perhaps the bleaker of the two, driven by endearing detail. Both explore the care and feeding of personal demons, travel, and uncertainty. All things considered, this is a hidden gem: 43 minutes of melancholy country-folk songs with no filler, written and executed with precision. If you’re feeling down, pour a glass of bourbon and give it a listen." - Declan Ryan, Independent Clauses Adam Bricks (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/AdamBricksMusic/ From the NYC Antifolk scene to Houston’s tight knit growing music community, Adam Bricks is known for his intense story based songwriting. Since his first release, “Clock Crash EP”, in 2011 he has played throughout the east coast as well as in his home state of Texas. His 2013 debut , “City Songs”, was a tribute to his home-city of Houston as well as his NYC Stomping grounds. His latest record, 2016's "Relations" Is a full band take on more personal subjects.

Seperately cutting their teeth in bands like Upsidedown Kellys, Talk Means Trouble, The Kubricks, No Inbetween, Pathetic Subsistance, and The Slowdown, these guys have come together ready to forge ahead with a classic, straightforward sound that doesn’t mess around. The Return of The Hates with $50 Goat, Lizzie Boredom, & Room101

February 3, 8:00p.m. - 1:00a.m.

Yes, we can now confirm it. As first reported by The Chronicle's eagle eyed Adrew Dansby, The Hates are returning! "The sign pictured above was easy enough to miss, being nondescript and DIY befitting one of the city's most beloved bands. But there it was just the same at the corner of Farnham and the Southwest Freeway feeder road. The Hates are returning. Apparently Feb. 3 at Rudyard's. The show will be a welcome return for the punk band, especially after a trying year. Hates frontman Christian Kidd had shoulder surgery in January, which is a heavy lift for a guitarist under any circumstances. Then later this year he was diagnosed with Stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma. I'd missed the announcement last month that his cancer was in remission, which is very good news. And now it appears he'll soon be back to playing short, sharp classic punk rock songs." - Andrew Dansby, Houston Chronicle, Friday, November 24, 2017 The Hates (Houston, TX) http://www.thehates.com/ The Hates has been called "Houston's first and last punk band", and with over thirty years of blood, sweat, and that familiar mohawk, those words may be more true than their author ever knew. From his very first live show in 1978, Christian Arnheiter has steered this legendary band through decades of disco, pop, new wave, hair bands, hip-hop, crossover country, and now the newest fad of tribute bands to keep punk rock alive. In a time when many early eighties groups are getting back together to play reunion shows, the Hates have the distinction of being the oldest continuously performing unsigned punk band. And despite the love/hate relationship the local music scene has had with punk rock over the years, the Bayou City will always be their home. $50 Goat (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/fiftydollargoat/ Zipperneck meets Texas Mod Crushers and has a baby goat. The Beaumonts * Poor Dumb Bastards * Hard Luck Revival

February 9, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

The Beaumonts (Lubbock, TX) http://thebeaumontstx.com/ There's something about Lubbock. Something other than the oppressive blue sky, the unavoidable cloud of shit-smell that occasionally engulfs the city, the flat, featureless landscape, or the preponderance of teen pregnancy, boredom, alcoholism, and God. There's music. Yes, indeed there is. The Hub City has spawned music like you wouldn't believe. Music loved by folks the world over. Even the real "King of Rock and Roll" came from Lubbock, and if you believe that (which you'd be a damn fool not to), then it ain't too much of a stretch to believe Lubbock is also home to the greatest country band that ever existed. That band is THE BEAUMONTS. It wasn't too long ago that four of Lubbock's most loved veteran musicians decided the state of Texas country music was dismal at best, and horrifying at its worst. Somehow, over the last twenty years, it became acceptable for a group of frat-boys to show up in thrift-store AC/DC shirts, play half-ass Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes about drinking Lone Star and smoking weed, and call that "country." Well, good friends, THE BEAUMONTS didn't think that was "all that damn country" and decided to do something about it. What resulted was a juggernaut of essence, the trooest of troo cvntry, something akin to the creation of the universe, but with Telecasters. Behold, good friends, and delight in the majesty of THE BEAUMONTS! Poor Dumb Bastards (Houston, TX) https://www.reverbnation.com/poordumbbastards Poor Dumb Bastards were formed in March 1991 by long time hetero life partners and musical collaborators, Mike Porterfield and Byron Dean. The initial interest was to form a band and a sound that captured the twisted and bizarre sense of humor of the two. Drawing on their collective influences and experiences from some of their earlier work, bands like Cretinoid, Plutonium Flatheads and the Byron Weird Group, Mike and Byron created a genre all their own, hence “Texas Drunk Rock” was born. The now legendary live shows and creative duct tape use, has seen the band through some tough times. The death of Guitarist Hunter Ward in 2007 almost put an end to the journey. In 2008 PDB decided to get together and finish the album “Price of Rebellion” a fitting tribute to Hunter. PDB has won three Houston Press band of the year awards and one song of the year in 1997 for the at the time unreleased classic true story of “My Dad Two Whores and a Crackpipe”. Poor Dumb Bastard’s second ever show was opening for Smashing Pumpkins at the now closed Emo’s Houston. Playing with bands like Fear, Killdozer, Joan Jett, Marky Ramone, and many more. This enabled PDB to carve their initials on the bathroom door of the Texas music scene. Through the many years and many lineup changes, these Ill-minded sewer rockers have stayed true to their founding principals. POWER, PERFORMANCE, PERVERSION Hard Luck Revival (Houston, TX) http://www.hardluckrevival.com Hard Luck Revival is a Houston-based band with a sound that creates a musical melting pot of Gulf Coast Blues, outlaw country, bluegrass, and garage country, with a dash of punk rock.

The Grizzly Band * When Particles Collide * Brightwire

February 17, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

The Grizzly Band (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/TheGrizzlyBand “After the band finished up its setlist, the audience was not ready to call it a night. Despite amps being shut off and the house music rising up, the audience was non-relenting in their demand for more songs from their hometown band. So, the band retook the stage and ripped into another classic Grizzly tune, Nightmare Lady. This has always been one of my favorite tunes from the band, next to the seldom played Stage Dive. Grizzly keeps moving up through bigger venues, more cities and better exposure. Take my advice and get out to a show soon so you can tell folks how you saw them back in the clubs. Believe me, that day will come.” Samuel Barker - Houston Music Review “There was reprieve in the cards for my cochleae. At Dean's, Grizzly stomped out an appealingly hard honky-tonk sound that culminated in a nice, crunchy cover of "Folsom Prison Blues," complete with wailing guitar solo attached.” Nathan Smith - Houston Press "In a world of rock radio stations that keep getting weaker, It's refreshing to know that there are a few Texas boys with balls that still put out some good rock and roll. They call it, "Southern Whiskey Punk.' It's what you get when you mix two parts Rancid, one part Supersuckers, a splash of Mean Gene Kelton mixed in a country shaker, and served up with a Dropkick Murphys chaser. It goes down hard, but definitely good! There is no gimmick to this band! The song "One more day" which is on the new album "Come And Take It" due out in March has an anthem quality to it that'll make you want to throw up a fist, kiss your ole lady and drink a cold lone star beer." MissVHaven - Tip Out Magazine When Particles Collide (Exeter, NH) https://www.whenparticlescollide.com "You're onto something great when you can deliver a straightforward pop nugget that pulls from Motown, heavy metal and equal parts Joan Jett and Nancy Sinatra.....punk rock fury, metal crescendos and delicate melodic turns...groovy, heavy pop, slick, hypnotic new wave (power pop? power wave?)." -Jed Gottlieb The Boston Herald August 2016 "WPC’s music is an amalgam of many kinds of rock: punk, metal, grunge, Southern, classic, new wave." - Chris Busby, The Bollard, June 2015 "She (Sasha) and drummer Chris Viner make music that’s hard to pin down, a powerful mix of art-rock and pop-punk." -Josh Jackson, Paste Magazine, September 2014 "Clothed in a delicious pop-punk candy shell, but inside lies a rhythmic and melodic core that’s rooted in Alcott and Viner’s dynamic partnership, with elements of jazz and metal creeping in." -Emily Burnham, Bangor Daily News, June 2014 Brightwire (Baytown, TX) http://brightwiremusic.com/ After a couple of years of touring as a harmony vocalist with Samuel Barker, Kim Daniels (now Barker!) started writing songs and taking an active role in the artistic direction the arrangements of Samuel’s older songs. Then, as Samuel’s son, Ian, joined the duo on bass, it became clear that continuing as a solo artist made no sense for Samuel, so, Brightwire was born. After a few months of touring and playing shows, Samuel and Kim got married on March 11, 2017 and have no slowed down since. Ian has taken on a few roles in various orchestra projects, which has limited his appearances in the live setting recently, but remains a vital part of the recording and artistic process for Brightwire. Currently, the trio are working on their debut album and racking up all the miles they can travelling around the country playing their songs for anyone with an ear to lend.

DR Belt (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/drbeltband/ DR Belt, out of Houston, TX, is a bass driven, progressive rock band with emphasis in the alternative/funk/metal genre with pop oriented vocals. Originally created as a studio project by slap happy bassist/vocalist Rob Belt and fervid lead vocalist Daniel Ray Rivera, DR Belt has evolved into a tenacious, live performing band. The addition of commanding drummer Robby Cook and versatile guitarist Eddie Espinosa has drastically improved the overall sound and performance of DR Belt both in the studio and on the stage. DR Belt's live performance has been described as powerfully energetic and entertaining. Influenced heavily by bands such as Primus, Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Muse, and many more, DR Belt embraces and embellishes on their naturally occurring 90's grunge/power pop feel. Descendants of Erdrick (Austin, TX) http://www.descendantsoferdrick.com/ Descendants of Erdrick is a progressive/metal video game tribute band from Austin, Texas, specializing in (but not limited to) covers of "epic" role-playing/adventure genre games. The name of the band is in reference to the first-ever console JRPG, DRAGON WARRIOR (also known as DRAGON QUEST). In the true spirit of the role-playing/adventure game, each instrumental "medley" of songs is aimed at telling a story, often using sound effects, ambient vocals, and visuals alongside the instrumentals to establish a mood. Brume

March 2, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

Brume (San Francisco, CA) https://www.brumeband.com/ In a world where everything travelled at the speed of sludge, Brume were united by a love of the riff in San Francisco at the beginning of 2014. Jamie McCathie (guitar) moved to California, leaving his UK sludge band Gurt in London but knew as soon as he met Susie McMullan (vox/bass) they’d make music. Instantly bonding over bands like Sleep, Windhand and The Melvins the two got to writing. Arising from the fog came Jordan Perkins-Lewis (Drums), who's unique 'Mr Bungle'esque inspiration rounded out the songs, taking each idea and creating something beyond heavy. The trio headed into Sharkbite studios in Oakland (Sleep, High on Fire, Acid King) to create there first record at the end of 2014, combing fuzz soaked stoner metal, haunting ritualistic vocals and crushing slow and low doom.

Super Robot Party * Matthew And The Arrogant Sea * Uffizi

March 10, 8:00p.m. - 1:00a.m.

Super Robot Party (Houston, TX) http://superrobotparty.net/ Super Robot Party was founded by Richard Crandall, writing songs with James Gomez. In August of 2011, the band grew with the enlisting of Matt Crow on guitar/vocals and Joe Scott on drums. Within a couple of months, the band finished writing songs and began rehearsal and fine tuning for live performances. In September of 2012, Super Robot Party released their debut album, Electrocity. The band meshes glitch electronics with spaced out guitar and vocals. Super Robot Party conjures the likeness of sonic noise to form their own brand of spaced out noisy indie rock. Matthew And The Arrogant Sea (Denton, TX) https://www.makeamericaweirdagain.com/ Matthew And The Arrogant Sea (MATAS) is an alt-folk/psychedelic pop act from Denton, TX. The band has received numerous accolades and notable press from around the globe since its inception in the early 2000s. Heralded with praise from outlets such as Daytrotter, NME, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Good Morning Texas, and NPR, alongside the exuberant praise from their national debut, "Family, Family, Family, Meets the Magic Christian", in 2008—named one of the best records to be released in North Texas in the last decade. With the band's latest endeavor "The Glooms, Pt. 1", MATAS takes a darker turn into newer and dreamier territories while maintaining (and improving upon) the sounds they had originally sought out with the 2008 release. Founder and frontman Matthew Gray is accompanied by Alexander Hughes (drums), Blake Vickrey (bass), Tony Whitlock (lead guitar), and Christopher James (rhythm guitar), who together form a wildly dynamic and deeply magical group capable of making the darkest of stories into beautiful ballads. With noteworthy players who accompany the band on occasion—clarinet, flute, sax, trumpet, vocals, keys—each and every show is a unique experience...an astral treat for your ears, if you will. Uffizi (Houston, TX) https://www.facebook.com/uffiziband/ Documenting our time, sound and actions in this arrangement of three men and their time together as artist, musicians, expressionists and thoughts no matter how ridiculous and nonsensical it is to others. Art, to us, is beholden in the eye of you, the viewer and listener. Take from it what you can and learn or influence YOU, hopefully for the better. We all have a choice to make.

Pegstar presents: War Cloud (all ages)

March 16, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

War Cloud (Oakland, Ca) https://www.facebook.com/warcloudiscoming/ Erupting in 2014, out of Oakland, California, War Cloud has been on a steady path of shredding Northern Californian ear drums. Founded by Alex Wein (vocals, guitars), who hails from Baltimore MD, he wasted zero time in recruiting area musicians after firmly planting his amps in the Bay Area. Looking to create an aural ash cloud of volcanic rock, Alex solidified this crew with Bay Area natives Joaquin Ridgell (drums) and Tony Campos (guitar), and Taylor Roach (bass). War Cloud is a young band but far from wide-eyed innocents. Their musical history drenched in molten riffs across the timeline of heavy metal, the name alone originates from a Wicked Lady song of the same title. With roots encompassing Tony’s tenure in San Francisco’s heavy thrash tinged Hell Fire, Kai's melding of hard rock rhythm and old-school groove on bass, and Joaquin pounding his drums as if possessed by the ghost of John Bonham himself. War Cloud has created a new flavor of heavy rock music for those enjoying past meals served up by the likes of Pentagram, UFO, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. This is modern metal sophistication dipped deep in ‘70’s heavy fuzz rock. Friday March 16, 2018 Pegstar presents: War Cloud doors 8:00pm all ages $10.00 Tickets Available at: https://www.stubwire.com/event/warcloud/rudyards/houston/16953/

Magnet School * Jay Satellite * Brand New Hearts

March 31, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

Magnet School (Austin, TX) https://www.facebook.com/magnetschooltheband/ With a distinct sonic style that stands alone in a sea of underground music, Magnet School's unique tunings and approach to songwriting have earned them a place in Texas & Worldwide as a class act. With an EP, 2x Studio Albums, and UK 7" vinyl release under their belt all with stellar reviews, Magnet School have garnered lots of attention and credibility on the Alternative Rock, Dream Pop, & Shoegaze scenes. From being chosen as a Buzzcatcher band by Spin Magazine for their amazing debut album "Tonight we drink... Tomorrow we battle the evil at hand," to touring the UK with key shows in London, Sheffield, and Liverpool playing Will Sergeant's (Echo & The Bunneymen) FRICTION Presents where they made an instant impression. Their 3rd release and first UK 7" single "The Sitch" was a highlight on the sampler disc for the Midem Festival in Cannes, France - they have turned heads in many places around the Globe. Jay Satellite (Austin, TX) https://www.facebook.com/jaysatellite/ Jay Satellite is a quartet from Hutto that unabashedly rings out early ‘90s big guitar power pop with catchy melodies and songs you swear you’ve heard before…but there’s a dark undercurrent to the lyrics and guitar chords and a quirkiness that shows their record collections go deep towards post-punk, goth, shoegaze and beyond.
