The Hazytones w/ Hudu Akil at Flagstaff's Green Room

January 25, 8:00p.m.

The Hazytones * Hudu Akil The Hazytones is a group of stoner rock founded in 2015 in Montreal. The trio stuns the audience with his stage presence and intensity. Riff after riff, the group is known for his fat sound and heavy destructive saturation. The band is acknowledged for the powerful voice and guitar playing of Mick Martel (former founding member of Madcooks). Supported by the accuracy of their drummer Antoine St-Germain (current member of God Bless America) and the rigor of the bassist Frederic Couture (former founding member of Reckless Ride), The Hazytones are sanctioned for their energetic rhythm section. In September 2015, The Hazytones began the production of their debut album recorded and mixed at ReelRoad studio located in Rosemont – La Petite-Partie in Montreal. After a few month of labor, the band launched his first single ‘’Living On The Edge’’, followed by a music video. To mark the imminent release of their first titled album, the trio got on the road across Canada(23 shows) from August to September 2016. The band launched their first titled album on September 22nd at La Rockette bar in Montreal at the Pop Montreal festival. The album was well received by the stoner/psychedelic community in Canada, USA and Europe. More recently, the band toured Europe (UK, Belgium, Switzerland and France) for 28 days and 10 days after they embarked on a Canadian tour that led them all the way to Vancouver and back. Coming back from tour Frey Coaster parted ways with the band to pursue his career. The Hazytones luckily found Adam Gilbert to join the band on bass and back vocals. Since then, the trio has been playing a couple of shows and writing songs. For the Hazytones future, a full U.S.A tour is scheduled in January and a second album is on it’s way. The band has been signed to two labels, Ripple Music and Kozmik Artifacts. Both labels will produce Cd, Vinyls and handle the digital distribution. Everything is set to be release on November 3rd. ***** Hudu Akil was formed in the summer of 2017, in Yuma, AZ. Now based in Phoenix and with a self-titled EP in hand, the band are currently completing the writing of their debut full-length and are set to for a spring release next year.

The band’s first full-length release – “ALIVE” – was soon followed by the “Road to Sturgis Tour 2017,” which put Black Heart Saints’ charismatic live performance to the test when the band took the stage at the world-renowned motorcycle rally, attended by over 500,000 bikers from all around the globe. Foreshadowing a successful 2018, Black Heart Saints will embark on an extensive tour to the West Coast beginning in January, which will include a highlight performance at the legendary Viper Room in West Hollywood, California.

The Veer Union * Xaon at Flagstaff's Green Room

February 6, 7:00p.m.

The Veer Union * Xaon at Flagstaff's Green Room The Veer Union New Album: "DECADE" 10 Years of Overcoming Adversity - THE VEER UNION is BACK with their 6th studio album "DECADE" 2016 marks the 10 year span between The Veer Unions' first album "Time To Break The Spell" released in 2006 and their brand NEW upcoming release appropriately titled "DECADE" slated to be released on January 29, 2016. This is the first full length album release since their 2012 release "Divide The Blackened Sky". This marks 10 years of THE VEER UNION and their struggles of overcoming adversity. Crispin began his journey singing, songwriting and producing songs for "The Veer Union" as a solo project in 2001, at this time the project was called "Everything After". Crispin wrote and produced over 15 demos in 2001 before the first incarnation of the band which later would come to be known as "The Veer Union". Two of those demos from 2001 "Watch You Lose" & "Make Believe" got Tommy Lees' attention from Motley Crue and in 2005 were used on Tommy Lee's solo record "TommyLand". Crispin felt that the new album DECADE seemed like the perfect opportunity to take these two songs along with 3 other songs which were written before the first incarnation of The Veer Union 10 years ago, and bring them back to life. 5 BRAND NEW songs were also written for this new album bridging the span of over a DECADE proving that THE VEER UNION can stand the test of time. One other demo was called "Seasons" which would later become the leadoff single to their major label release titled "Against The Grain" on Universal Records. "Seasons" went Top 10 in the USA and Canada and #32 on Billboard's Top Heat Seekers Chart, as well as used by WWE, MLB and Nascar and many more. 3 years later "The Veer Union" released "Divide The Blackened Sky" with the leadoff single "Bitter End" which went #1 on Sirius Xm Octane and was used by the NHL Pittsburg Penguins Stanley Cup theme song. Crispin has struggled with depression over the years. Despite his internal battle he continues to persevere through life and his musical journey, which is what the leadoff single lyrically signifies titled, "Defying Gravity". THE VEER UNION is excited about releasing the NEW album "DECADE" which is self produced by Crispin. It has taken "The Veer Union" 4 years to rebuild and form a NEW UNION with NEW members Ryan Ramsdell on Rhythm Guitars, Dan Sittler on Lead Guitar/Vocal Harmonies, Touring Drummer Tyler Reimer and Amal Wijayanayake on Bass Guitar/Scream Vocals. The Veer Union is now ready to take 2016 by storm with the help of their new labels Pavement Entertainment and Rock Shop Entertainment and longtime friend and manager Erik Baker from Streetsmart Management. Look out for The Veer Unions NEW LP "Decade" in January 2016. Xaon An elusive name born amidst Switzerland's highest mountains. Never quite fitting in any of the numerous galleries metal has to offer, drifting through the extremes whilst juxtaposing finesse and vehemence, exploring the vast echoic gloominess of the human mind. You can simply call it DARK METAL. After a successful major european tour with gothic metal monsters SIRENIA and folk metal legends TYR promoting their debut EP “Face Of Balaam” and several large festival shows with the likes of PARADISE LOST, ELUVEITIE and ROTTING CHRIST, the combo led by Vincent Zermatten (guitars) and Rob Carson (vocals) took their alchemical artistry to a new level with the release of their first album “The Drift” through Sliptrick Records. The album progresses from spectral ambiances to grandiose and intricate orchestrations, it evolves from oppressing aggressiveness to majestic lamentations and will make you journey through a turmoil of monolithic pummeling and distinguished mournfulness. Following this critically acclaimed release, the band is ready to take 2018 by storm and prepared to prove themselves as an upcoming force around the world.

February 12, 8:00p.m.

Robber's Roost at Flagstaff's Green Room Described as Swing-Time/Rag-Punk, Robber's Roost is a touring band that started in Ellensburg, WA. Back in the late 1800's and early 1900's there was a general store called Robber's Roost in the valley that is now Ellensburg, WA. Because this region had no name by default it was referred to as "Robber's Roost." Robber's Roost was also a hideout for outlaws in southeastern Utah for outlaws like Elzy Lay and Butch Cassidy who formed the Wild Bunch gang during the same time period as the general store was in business. The band Robber's Roost has one original member and a few alternating members thus far. Mark Paschen is the one consistent member/writer: Resonator Guitar/Bass/Musical Saw/Vocals/Kazoo We have Calvin slaying percussion on garbage cans, buckets, pots and pans! Dusty Green Bones Band at Flagstaff's Green Room

February 15, 8:00p.m.

Dusty Green Bones Band pushes the boundaries of bluegrass by mixing it with rock n roll, psychedelic, Americana, folk, outlaw country, even African hi life. Each member has their own style but they blend together perfectly. They feed off of each other's differences to create new style and sound. They offer variety, whereas most bands tend to stick to their comfort zones. You can't get anymore traditional bluegrass than Isaac Cantor (Banjo,Vocals) His discipline paired with his intellectual mind brings complex structure to their sound. Dustin (mandolin & vocals) is best known for his fast tempo and progressive song writing. His voice also brings a familiar feeling that is very comforting as a listener. Scottie (bass) is the rock in the group in terms of rhythm. He has an understanding of his bandmates that makes for a steady heart beat in their grooves. Scottie is solid, in every way, as a musician and as a human. Jon Ryan "JR" (drums) is the glue. He knows how to connect with each member and tie it all together. He is the fun loving energy who gets you to dance, even if you don't want to. Toby (guitar & vocals) is the edgy rock n roll presence in the group; bringing with him a past of gypsy jazz, jug band, psychedelic folk and fusion. He relates to his listeners through his lyrics and has a captivating stage presence that forces you to stop and watch no matter what you're doing at the moment. Not only are the Dusty Green Bones musically talented, they are also just great guys who genuinely love life and love what they're doing - and that reflects in their performance. Every Dusty Green Bones Band show is a rockin good time. They speak to an audience comprised of all different types of mentalities and lifestyles; fulfilling their goal of bringing different people together under the same roof, listening to the same music, eventually finding out that they're not so different after all. -Written by Claire Moonie

MarchFourth is a kaleidoscope of musical and visual energy that inspires unabashed dancing, and an atmosphere of celebration. Dressed in redesigned marching-band-themed costumes, they bring electric bass, 4-piece percussion corps, a 7-part brass section, dancers, acrobatics, stilt-walkers and a very diverse musical repertoire. M4 is far from a "marching band" in any traditional sense but they have been known to swagger down Main Street playing tunes before taking the stage. MarchFourth travels in a crew of about 20, all on one tour bus, bringing their unique brand of party with them all over the world. Their show will take you on a journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the gypsy camps of eastern Europe to the African jungle by way of Brazil, echoing the deepest grooves of American funk, rock, and jazz then boiling it all together in cinematic fashion, real showmanship and dazzling dancing. This genre-busting, in-your-face experience is not to be missed!

The Nth Power

March 14, 8:00p.m. - 2:00a.m.

The Nth Power comes to Flagstaff for the 1st time! Proving that soul music can be exponentially greater than the sum of its parts, The Nth Power is on a mission to share the light. Formed during an impromptu late-night jam at Jazz Fest 2012 in New Orleans, the relentlessly funky and soulful band believes in music as a higher power tapping into an energy that is simultaneously sexy and spiritual, with songs that will inspire audiences to dance, groove, make love or just stand there with goose bumps. The trio hails from diverse musical backgrounds, races and creeds. Female powerhouse Nikki Glaspie was Beyonce’s world-touring drummer for five years before she joined Ivan Nevilles New Orleans funk outfit, Dumpstaphunk. Bassist Nate Edgar of Groovechild and John Browns Body perfectly compliments singer and guitarist Nick Cassarino who came from the Jennifer Hartswick Band and toured with Big Daddy Kane. The Nth Power’s 2013 independent EP, Basic Minimum Skills Test, showcases a first glimpse of the spark shared among the group, delivering gospel-style vocals with soul, jazz, funk and world-beat riffs in nearly mathematical fashion. They have followed up that release with a studio album in 2015 “Abundance” produced by Ira Schickman and live release “To Be Free” in 2016 recorded and mixed by Paul Diaz. “It’s my dream team,” said Glaspie, “each one of us is a songwriter, so when we get together, everything becomes that much stronger.” Beyond raw skill, however, Glaspie cites a deep spiritual connection as the glue that binds them together. “Music is what brought us together, but its the spiritual bond that makes us play so in touch with each other,” she explained. And at the core of their vibe is a deviously simple concept the healing power of love. The Nth Power’s inspirational sets have floored audiences at music festivals like Electric Forest, Bear Creek, Catskill Chill and North Coast Music Festival. The band has been relentlessly touring and writing for the past 4 years since their inception and continue to grow in their mission as they spread love and healing through music across the land. Although the band members are based across the East Coast, they maintain New Orleans as their spiritual home, and the celebratory essence of that city’s music culture is audible in each performance. Simply put, there is something pretty magical happening in this band, and they’re only just getting started. “Were going as far as you can go on the planet Earth and playing music,” explains Glaspie, “I don’t know how many times we’ve said it we are so blessed.” Together, The Nth Power wants to change lives through a message of musical love and understanding.

Austin John Winkler - Former Vocalist of Hinder at Flagstaff's Green Room

March 15, 8:30p.m.

Austin John Winkler - Former Vocalist of Hinder at Flagstaff's Green Room After a three-year hiatus from the music world, multi-platinum singer/songwriter, Austin John Winkler is back with the release of his highly anticipated solo EP entitled Love Sick Radio. Having sold millions of albums, with numerous hits under his belt, including Hinder's breakthrough hit, "Lips Of An Angel", Winkler is ready to share with the world what he's doing musically now. Winkler's lyrics, distinctive voice and passion for music is stronger than ever with his new modern twist on rock and roll. The six-song EP featuring guest appearances by Sophie Summers and country star, Jessie James Decker, was released on April 22nd, 2016. "It's a very exciting time for me", says the Oklahoma City native. "It's been a long time in the making and I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised at the musical direction I took when I stepped into the studio to make this record. It's quite a bit different from Hinder or anything that I've ever done." After parting ways with Hinder in 2013, Winkler began to take a different approach to songwriting. Instead of trying to adapt what he thought his fans wanted to hear, Winkler decided to take some risks and embrace his creative freedom as a solo artist. Winkler started his solo project with a clean slate and one thing in mind, "To be as open and honest as I can be with nothing to lose!" Winkler dove into this project wearing all of his musical influences on his sleeve and never looked back. He grew up listening to everything from The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Heart and Elton John to Sublime, Michael Jackson, Biggie Smalls and Eminem, just to name a few. "I hope poeple love the new sound and songs I've written...but no matter what, I am proud of these songs and hope they in some way connect with my fans both old and new. These songs really helped me get through some tough times and I hope they can also help anyone who can relate to these topics." Austin John Winkler is looking forward to embarking on this musical journey again, but this time all on his own.

The Expanders w/ SensaMotion * Dubbest at Flagstaff's Green Room

April 13, 8:00p.m.

The Expanders w/ SensaMotion * Dubbest at Flagstaff's Green Room The Expanders have come to be known for their vintage “rockers” style of reggae, played in the tradition of classic 1970s Jamaican groups like The Ethiopians, Culture, and The Mighty Diamonds. Their music emphasizes three-part vocal harmonies and strong songwriting. In addition to performing their own original material and rare Jamaican scorchers, since 2006 The Expanders have been the chosen backing band for legendary Jamaican singers when they come to California to perform. The group has backed classic artists Alton Ellis, The Maytones, The Ethiopians, The Wailing Souls, and many more. For two years in a row they were featured at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Mendocino County where their performances were praised by The Beat magazine as having recreated “the old classic Kingston rocksteady sound to a T.” They have been frequent guests on SoCal radio shows such as Reggae Central with Chuck Foster (KPFK 90.7 fm) and The Reggae Show with Junor Francis (KXLU 88.9 fm). SensaMotion New roots reggae and dubfire rock for the motion of your soul. Hailing from Atlantic City, NJ Sensamotion is known for their unique style, captivating a audience across the nation. They have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in reggae music such as The Wailers, Matisyahu, Israel Vibration, Tribal Seeds, Collie Buddz, The Green, Easy Star All Stars, Barrington Levy, Stick Figure, Ky-Mani Marley, Fortunate Youth and more.. They've also performed as the backing band for Kevin Kinsella performing classic John Brown's Body, and 10ft Ganja Plant tunes. Inspired by bands such as Groundation, Midnite, and John Brown's Body they are looking to bring something new to the table. Their EP 'Looking Up' is out and available now. With a newly added horn section (trumpet and saxophone) Sensamotion is currently evolving their sound and working hard on new music. They plan to bring you their first full length album in the near future. Stay tuned! Dubbest Since 2009, Dubbest has been forging its own path through the heavily forested reggae landscape, expertly infusing roots traditionalism with a refreshing improvisational savvy that calls to mind not only the studio experimentation of pioneering dub producers Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock and Lee “Scratch” Perry but also the real-time exploration of jam bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish. As friends in high school, guitarist Andrew MacKenzie, singer/melodica player Ryan Thaxter , bassist Sean Craffey, guitarist Cory Mahoney, and drummer Kyle Hancock shared a love of pop-punk and ska, bonding over bands like Black Flag, until they caught wind of Augustus Pablo’s 1974 dub classic Ital Dub. This was the gamechanger that set the stage for their current musical approach: using introspective, spacious bass and drum grooves to anchor a thickly-textured interplay of instruments, vocals, and timbres. With their third album, Light Flashes, Dubbest is poised for national recognition. Polished to perfection over a three-year period, Light Flashes invokes the spark of inspiration the band felt working with veteran producer Craig “Dubfader” Welsch of 10 Ft. Ganja Plant over at Rear Window Studios in Brookline, MA. As Andrew MacKenzie notes, “It is a powerful name to us, and it tends to catch one’s attention, like an actual flashing light. It’s a great fit for this album. The name and the artwork together help bring out the album’s edge.” They credit Welsch with taking their music to a higher level of musicianship and authenticity, noting how he draws out the best from each band member and employs a large stock of vintage instruments, such as a Hammond B3 organ and 1950s Fender Stratocasters, to convincingly evoke the 1970s glory days of roots reggae and dub. Kevin Metcalfe’s mastering work cemented this old-school sound: he has provided the finishing touch on albums by U.K.’s pop, rock, and reggae luminaries since the 1960s. On the musician front, the band was aided by stalwarts of the Boston scene, including Elliot Martin of John Brown’s Body on backing vocals and 10 Ft. Ganja Plant’s Mark Berney, Jared Sims, and Brian Thomas on horns and Steve D on synthesizer. The album maintains a fresh and fascinating feel with its contrasting blend of catchy uptempo crowdpleasers and dub instrumentals that manage to stay sunny. Thanks to the professionalism of its recording and arrangements, it stands out as a worthy successor to the greats of yesteryear who guide the band’s aesthetic: Toots and The Maytals, Augustus Pablo, and Gregory Isaacs, to name a few. Crowd favorite “One Thing” closes their shows, but starts the album on the right foot, establishing its dub vibration. The next two tracks, “Spend The Day” and “Weeping Heart,” create a radio-friendly one-two punch through energetic grooves, soulful melodies, and lyrics meant for singing into a lady love’s ear. Another love song, “End Of The Road,” is probably the album’s oldest track and one of many to feature a three-part horn section imported from ska, here as an expression of heightened emotion. On the track, “Give In,” the horns join the bass line to deliver raw power meant to be cranked at high volume. Keyboards take center stage on the space jam “Leaving,” the instrumental “Escape Route,” and the live-show staple “Cross Pollination.” Light Flashes closes with “Leave In Dub,” a track that proves why Welsch’s nickname is “Dubfader”; it also provides the perfect coda to the final song, “By Design,” driven by Elliott Martin’s stellar harmony vocals. Dubbest has just launched an album release tour that will introduce them to the West Coast territory that put North American reggae on the map, home to heavy-hitters like Groundation, Slightly Stoopid, and Rebelution. Live shows give the band a chance to stretch their legs and revel in spontaneity. They like to expand the dub sections of songs to showcase each performer and surprise the crowd with obscure roots reggae tracks. As MacKenzie puts it, “It’s always an exciting show because you never know what we’ll play.” The combination of this in-the-moment energy with Light Flashes’s studio wizardry and songwriting prowess causes a combustion that propels the band’s musical journey toward timelessness.
