Nomad Donut Collaboration

Bottlecraft Liberty Station

February 5, 11:00a.m. - 10:00p.m.

Sunday Donut Sunday! Join us at 11am this Sunday, February 5th for the release of our donut collaboration with Nomad! Nomad Donuts is a gourmet donut shop located on North Park's famous 30th Street. They are known for their exotic and unusual flavor combinations while paying homage to timeless classics. Like Bottlecraft, Nomad is committed to the community and maintains a spirit of collaboration. Who doesn't like donuts and beer? We decided it was only right to team up and collaborate. For this collaboration we used our Borderline Brown Ale that we brewed with Tijuana's Insurgente. Borderline is an Imperial Brown Ale with Orange Blossom Honey and Walnuts. One of our favorite styles Nomad makes is their cream filled donut, so it's only natural that we used a Brown Ale custard to fill our collaboration with. After that we decided to use Orange Blossom, Honey, and Walnuts for the glaze. To finish things off, we topped the donut with an aged goat gouda crumble from our friends at Venissimo Cheese. Drooling yet? Mini versions of these donuts will be available at all 3 of our stores while the large versions will be at Nomad's 30th St. location while supplies last. We'll also have Borderline (the beer used inside the donut) on tap in Little Italy and bottles available to stay or to go at all 3 locations. $8 gets you a Borderline bottle and a donut or (in Little Italy) a pint of Borderline and a donut. Mini Donuts will be $2.50 per. We're so stoked for this collab and we hope you are too! See you Sunday! Who knows, maybe next we'll collaborate together on a beer with donuts. Cask anyone?

Gunwhale Tap Takeover

Bottlecraft Liberty Station

February 20, 10:00a.m. - 11:00p.m.

Come check out one of Orange County's newest breweries as they make their San Diego debut with us. Be the first in the city to try their brews and even keep the glass! Gunwhale specializes in "the European farmhouse tradition and the bold, West Coast styles that California made famous." We'll be pouring: Bait Ball – IPA PASSIONFRUIT, GRAPEFRUIT, RESINOUS A raw, unfiltered IPA, deep gold in color. Brewed with Pilsner, 2 Row, Oats and flaked barley. It is medium bodied and heavily hopped with over 2 lbs per barrel of Simcoe, Citra, and accented with Mosaic for hints of tropical and citrus flavor. Dry with assertive hop bitterness. Barno – Rye Nelson Saison BRIGHT, MUSTY, SPICY, GOOSEBERRY A cloudy, unfiltered Oak-fermented 4-grain saison showcasing 100% Nelson hops. Pale straw in color, aromas of white grape must, tropical fruit, rye spice, and assertive citrus pith bitterness and dry. Medium bodied, lively carbonation with a thick mousse head, makes this a crushable hoppy farmhouse hybrid. Majordomo – Citrus Farmhouse (Super Saison) ZESTY, COMPLEX, FRUITY A golden, medium bodied and high gravity farmhouse ale with complex Citrus flavor. We used a unique approach with the addition of over 100lbs of lemons, roasted, dried, pulverized and whirlpooled. With a low bitterness, this beer is balances its size with slight funk and a smooth head and mouthfeel. Jig Strike – Hoppy Pale Ale CITRUS, FLORAL, TOASTY MALTS A classic Californian golden pale ale with a light to medium body and fined for clarity. Lightly toasted malts (addition of Maris Otter and Munich), balanced with floral and fruity hop character from a heavy Chinook, Centennial, and Cascade dry hop schedule. Mild hop bitterness, medium carbonation, this beer finishes refreshingly dry. Shellmaker – Oyster Dry Stout ROASTY, COFFEE, BRINE A roasty, medium bodied black ale with sublte brine character from the addition to the boil of fresh oysters. This dry stout expresses notes of bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, and has a creamy mouthfeel and tan head from the use of flaked barley. Moderate carbonation, balanced bitterness and a dry smooth finish. Warning: shellfish allergy. Trollin’ – Double IPA TROPICAL, DANK, PIE CRUST A slightly hazy, deep gold hop bomb. Medium bodied and juicy, this beer is packed with Nelson and Mosaic hops showing bursts of mango, citrus and white grape notes in both aroma and flavor. Assertive hop bitterness but dry and holds a good balance between hops and malt and shows backbone but no booze bite, making it an easy drinker for the style.

Founders Pint Night

Bottlecraft Liberty Station

February 28, 4:00p.m. - 10:00p.m.

Join us Tuesday, February 28th for a "Keep the Glass" night with Founders Brewing Co. The event begins at 4pm in Liberty Public Market. Jessica from Founders will be there talking shop and answering questions about the brewery. Here's what we'll have for your imbibing pleasure: Frootwood: We took a crisp, light-bodied cherry ale and hid it away in oak barrels that have held both bourbon and maple syrup. After a lengthy stint, it emerged a changed beer, blanketed in notes of warm vanilla and earthy sweetness. The wood proves itself the star of this beer, adding depth and taming the tart cherry while the maple imposes a velvety texture that lingers for not a moment too long. 8% abv. Imperial Stout: Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley, this stout is smooth as silk, yet complex and rich in body. Serve this at cellar temperature. Put another log on the fire, sit back and enjoy the friendship of this ultimate winter warmer. 10.5% abv. Backwoods Bastard: Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate. 11.2% abv. All Day IPA: The beer you’ve been waiting for. Keeps your taste satisfied while keeping your senses sharp. An all-day IPA naturally brewed with a complex array of malts, grains and hops. Balanced for optimal aromatics and a clean finish. The perfect reward for an honest day’s work and the ultimate companion to celebrate life’s simple pleasures. 4.7% abv. Porter: Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter. 6.5% abv.

Three Sisters IPA Can Release

Bottlecraft Liberty Station

April 22, 11:00a.m. - 10:00p.m.

“A crafted collaboration giving back to mother nature.“ With Earth Day coming up we got together with Pure Project and Mother Earth to brew a collaboration IPA that was inspired by, and gives back to the Three Sister's Falls Trail. The beer, brewed at Mother Earth with Pure Project, is a light and juicy hazy IPA celebrating the great outdoors. A portion of proceeds will be donated to The San Diego River Park Foundation, who helps preserve the Three Sisters Falls Trail. We'll be releasing 12oz cans and draft of Three Sisters IPA on Saturday, April 22nd - Earth Day - at all the Bottlecraft locations! $17.99 per 12oz 6 pack Taplist: Bottlecraft Three Sisters "Created in conjunction with Pure Project and Mother Earth — this juicy, hazy IPA is hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe, and Nugget and is an homage to its namesake, the Three Sisters Falls Trail." Pure Project Madeline "A blend of mixed fermentation Saisons aged in french oak barrels. Light and effervescent with the color of golden straw. Aromas and flavors of classic farmhouse funk emerge upfront along with noticeable tartness over a background of oak." Pure Project Mind Expander "English style cream ale brewed w/ orange blossom honey and fresh orange blossoms." NITRO Pure Project Beyond the Murk "A big and bold Black IPA clocking in at 8.2% ABV and 60 IBU's. The notably classic west coast character comes from Citra, Simcoe and CTZ hops and elicits grapefruit rinds and pine sap while the roasts stays in the the background." Mother Earth Barrel-Aged Quit Stalin "A solid roasty backbone, full body, and absolute velvet finish round out hints of nutty toffee and chocolate. The barrels impart fantastic oak and vanilla characteristics, and a muted hop aroma allows the caramel maltiness to shine." Mother Earth Four Seasons Spring Saison *The Bruery Collab* "Brewed w/ fresh kumquats, a french saison yeast and dry-hopped w/ Citra, Amarillo, and Sorachi Ace." Mother Earth Power of Love "Part of their resinator series, notes of fresh melon and georgia peach and finishes super clean." Mother Earth Kismet "An aggressive assault of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. A pleasant grassy aroma is layered between pepper, mango, papaya, and grape must. With just enough caramel malt to add depth to color, the emphasis here is truly of the Southern Hemispherical variety." --- About the San Diego River Park Foundation: The San Diego River Park Foundation is dedicated to creating the San Diego River Park. As the only non-governmental organization dedicated to the entire length of the River, SDRPF plays the role of an umbrella organization for many other groups. "We work to to support and empower these groups who are endeavoring to restore and enhance the San Diego River and its ecosystem, create trails and new community facilities, protect historical resources and to enhance the communities along the river." The Foundation works to support important projects which will help to establish a river-long park while restoring and enhancing the river and its watershed, addressing flooding issues, providing greatly needed community facilities and opportunities to learn about our region's rich history, encouraging stewardship of the riparian environment, and improving the lives of those that live, work and play in the area.

Black Project Bottle Release & Meet the Brewer!

Bottlecraft Liberty Station

May 18, 7:00p.m. - 10:00p.m.

This Thursday, May 18th at 7pm: Black Project Bottle Release! Leading up to this weekend’s Festival Of Funk, the good folks from Black Project Spontaneous & Wild Ales - a fantastic sour brewery from Denver, Colorado - are in town and brought some bottles! We are super stoked to be able to offer up a limited amount of the following bottles at each Bottlecraft location, starting at 7pm: Reheat, Rocket Sled, Jumpseat and Ejector. *Two total bottles per person* ...but wait, there’s more! MEET THE BREWER! Swing by Bottlecraft Little Italy for BOTTLE POURS of Black Project Dreamland and MEET THE BREWER - James Howat - who will be hanging out and chatting about his amazing creations alongside our friends from Modern Times Beer. _____________________________ About Black Project Spontaneous and Wild Ales: Black Project Spontaneous & Wild Ales is the passion project of James Howat, owner, brewer, and blender; and Sarah Howat, owner and operation manager; of what was formerly Former Future Brewing Company. The brewery began production in January 2014 and won two bronze medals for their coolship ales (Category: Experimental, Subcategory: Wild Ales) at The Great American Beer Festival in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Black Project expanded production with a small addition to the property which allowed for the expansion of their barrel program. This allowed the brewery to evolve from Former Future Brewing Company to only serving Black Project beers. In 2017, Black Project hopes to produce 250 BBL of beer and increase distribution. Every Black Project beer is fermented with microbes captured from the local environment via a coolship or foraged from nature. We believe this creates a beer that is unrivaled in complexity. Our beers are intended to have a sense of place, or terroir. No matter how hard one tried to, our beer cannot be replicated outside of our brewery. In fact, our microbe cultures are purposefully allowed to evolve from batch to batch, creating variations and interesting twists from different releases of the same beer. We are meticulous about designing recipes and processes that will allow nature to take over and create beers unrivaled in their beauty and complexity. Through experimentation and research, we are continuously developing new and different techniques for use with wild and spontaneous fermentation. We are not and do not have any intention of being a Lambic brewery. We use science and experimentation to find which processes and ingredients we want and often use that in parallel to traditional Lambic producers, however, other than the use of a coolship, we maintain no strict adherence to tradition for tradition’s sake. Spontaneous fermentation is merely a starting point and core of our process, from there our research and development extends much beyond the scope of the great Belgian brewers and blenders. www.blackprojectbeer.com

Originally brewed for our team at Bottlecraft Virginia Beach, Tapestry is a blend of 3 sours aged for 13 months in red and white wine barrels then refermented in a foeder over raspberry and plum. Commonwealth has never been sold on the West Coast before and we are thrilled to share their debut with you! We’ll be selling bottles of Tapestry to go and pours by the glass. Orval Day

Bottlecraft Liberty Station

March 24, 11:00a.m. - 10:00p.m.

On Saturday, March 24th we raise a toast to one of our favorite beers: ORVAL! Orval is a complex and intriguing beer that is considered one of the best in the world and a favorite among brewers and bartenders. There has been a lot said about this beer, but we wanted to hear from our local beer community about what makes this beer so special to them. Stop in, crack a bottle, & see why this beer is so highly regarded! Free Orval goblet with purchase while supplies last. Nate Soroko (Beertender): “Orval is perfect. Slightly bitter, effervescent. The og brett beer. So good the Abbey only makes one beer. It's an upper echelon beer. Great fresh. Wonderful when aged. It's classic...it's Dean Martin getting out of a Lincoln Continental...cool without effort." Winslow (Pure Project): "I love Orval. From the sexy bottle to the cute little fish; there's nothing quite like it in the world. I'll be forever grateful for Orval introducing me to a special guy named Brett and showing me that you can be traditional and unconventional at the same time." Andrew Schwartz (Modern Times): “Orval is such a mind bending belgian beer. A beautiful juxtaposition of new and old, modern and rustic. A paragon of modern brewing practices and dosed with a touch of wild. Something different and unknown. I love how Orval is a supreme example of Brettanomyces and yet it is completely restrained. Orval is infinitely complex and dynamic and yet succinct and elegant. A duality that is uncommon in beer; illustrious but humble.” Derek Gallanosa (Moksa): "Orval is one of those beers that you drink as a rite of passage into the craft beer world. The respect that it demands is unlike many others. From the custom designed bottle to the snow cone looking head that it produces, Orval is an iconic beer whose appearance is known around the world. One of the most memorable Orval moments was being dragged to a former fancy pants San Diego nightclub, Stingaree, when I was 21 and being absolutely shocked to see it in their cooler for sale. Without hesitation I ordered one. Took me a few times to describe to the bartender what the hell I was talking about but when I finally got it, it turned an uncomfortable setting into a highly enjoyable experience. Every year around this time I seek out a bottle (or bottles) of Orval to pay homage to this truly classic beer." Curtis Chism (Council Brewing Co.): “Orval is such a distinctive beer from the other amazing Trappist beers. I view Orval as a community beer thanks to the annual Orval Day that brings funky beer lovers together. I've had the opportunity to drink aged bottles in the States as well as fresh bottles in Belgium and I'm always struck at how different, yet amazing, this brett beer is no matter the age of the beer which showcases just how incredible this beer is.” Matt Olesh (Bottlecraft): “I recently got an Orval tattoo. Why? Throughout my journey in craft beer, this beer has always been there - always revealing itself in new and interesting ways. Not only is it my desert island beer, it's an inspiration to me as a future brewery owner. Orval's use of dry hopping and brettanomyces bottle conditioning make it especially unique compared to other Trappists. Rather than the typical dubbels, tripels and quads, they've created a beautiful beer that evades style definition. It pours slightly cloudy with a rustic burnt golden orange hue and an impressive long lasting velvety off-white head. The nose on the beer emits bready malts, lightly earthy funk and a citrusy hop character balanced by a red-wine like fruitiness. The taste is delicate yet rustic. Lively carbonation up front gives way to explosions of rich pale malt and traditional abbey yeast character. As the carbonation subsides and your tastebuds have time to catch up, the fruitiness of the brett and hops reveal refreshing candied citrus notes and more of that wine-like fruitiness. In Belgium, some places serve Orval as an age specific offering. You might see it listed as 'under 1 year' or 'over three years'. As the beer ages, it undergoes a transformation from lightly sweet with a pronounced hop note to a yeast forward beer with big notes of brettanomyces and very lively carbonation. In the end, Orval leaves you intrigued and wanting to experience that flavor journey again. It just makes me so gosh darn happy.” -------------------------- About Orval Day: “The Orval legend began almost 1,000 years ago, when a princess accidentally dropped her ring into a spring and a trout returned it. It continues now, with a day to reflect on and enjoy this amazing Trappist ale. Last year on March 26th, 2016, devotees of Orval Trappist Ale – and even some folks who hadn’t tried it yet – convened upon their favorite bar to celebrate one of the world’s most unique beers. Orval was the first Brett beer to land on US shores, and has become the favorite beer for many star American brewers. ( "Brett" - brettanomyces - is a yeast variety that adds appetizing, sharp acidity and dryness.) Orval sells one beer, brewed to exquisite perfection within the walls of Notre Dame d’Orval Monastery in Belgium. It’s delicious when it leaves the brewery, but also evolves in the bottle for five years or more.”
