The refined groove of the new EP’s opening cut, “Praise the Sun” highlights the new focus the band has honed these past 7 years. Tuneful, catchy, but still retaining that necessary edge, “Praise the Sun” is The Walkmen filtered through mid-period Metallica. Anthemic without being pretentious, Formations is the sound of a band reaching its peak, priming for a larger audience.
