Our garnet-colored 1634 Ale was commissioned by Saint Mary's City to celebrate the 375th Anniversary of Maryland's founding. Trying to match ingredients known to be available in the austere conditions of early colonial Maryland, our brewers settled upon malted rye, molasses and caraway to deliver 1634 Ale's complex and well-rounded character.

This beer was brewed especially for the heat of the summer. It is an American-style wheat beer fermented with Blueberry puree. The slight purple color comes only from the fruit, and the course filtration helps keep the color and flavor intact. In the aroma you can pick out the fact that this beer is made with wheat, but you can also pick up a slight fruity tartness.

This dark, full-bodied stout has pleasant coffee notes from the many dark grains we used, which we accentuate by aging the beer on dark roasted Cameroon coffee beans from Dublin Roasters, our good neighbor at our new brewery expansion site. Our coffee stout has a wonderful dark, rich, earthy, ?sit and sip? kind of coffee aroma to compliment the very roasted, but not burnt or astringent aromas from the malt. The taste is complex and smooth. There are some slight caramel notes for a bit of balance

This is a dark version of the weizen beer style. This style is traditionally un-filtered and can have significant haze and cloudiness. Our Dunkle Weizen is brewed with a traditional Bavarian weizen yeast, which gives it a pronounced clove and spice character, as well as banana and ?bubblegum? notes. The darker malts in the Dunkelweizen lend a sweeter fllavor than found in our Hefeweizen. dunkelweizen is released in early fall and is available through late winter.

This is a small beer with a BIG attitude. Consider this the counterpoint to many beer drinker's recent interest in "extreme beers". Our notion was to take a small, light beer and pack it with flavor and personality. This is the ideal session ale for a drinker who still seeks a lot of flavor.

A British style, the I.P.A. originates from the aggressively hopped, higher-alcohol beers which were shipped to British expatriates in colonial India. Our IPA is light amber, or copper, in color. We were awarded a Bronze medal for this beer at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival and a Silver medal at the 2010 World Beer Cup.

Helles Bock8.6% ABV

Our Maibock is a very malty beer with a fair amount of residual sweetness. The hop character is subdued, with a delicate aroma and just enough bitterness to balance the sweet finish. This beer is best consumed at a leisurely pace, since it has some strength.

This seasonal beer was originally a home-brew recipe which one of our former brewers (Edgar Radonich) came up with over several brews. When he brewed it originally, he noticed that it was a new moon; and then it came out so well, that he decided that when he would brew it again, it would be on another new moon. There is no special significance to the name other than that. What is significant is that we release a cask on every new moon for the year following the release of a new vintage.

This English-style Brown Ale presents itself with a beautiful russet color and a slightly nutty nose. The dark malts used to brew our Nut Brown Ale lend a sweet flavor and dry, toasty finish. Lightly hopped, this beer is perfectly balanced and quite sessionable.

This Double IPA features a slight biscuit-like aroma with roasty hints of caramel. The dry-hopping process extracts a wonderful bouquet from the resins of the hop cones.

Like dark honey, this full bodied ale feels lush from the various specialty malts which we used in the grist. Most notably, this beer contains local malted rye from Amber Fields Malts. The hop varieties we feature in this beer present themselves with an obvious bitterness early in the taste, which lingers through the finish in perfect tension against the lingering malt flavor. The strong, rich and complex aromatics from the hops are the most noticeable attribute in the nose of this beer: herby,

What distinguishes Scotch Ale from other beers is its very rich malt character, residual sweetness, delicate bouquet, and overall flavor intensity. The maltiness and color originate from the use of highly kilned grain. The hops used are an aroma variety which do not lend much bitterness, but provide enough hop flavor to balance the malt sweetness.

Our Porter is a rich porter packed with flavor from the roasted specialty grains we use in the grist. We also use beechwood-smoked malt in the grist, which lends a distinctive smokiness to the taste and aroma. The way the malt is smoked is during the drying (or kilning) of the ?green malt?, a beechwood fire is burned and the smoke is allowed to enter the airstream that?s used to dry the malt with. The smoke then deposits on the outside of each grain. Then, during the mash, the smoke flavor becom
Baltic Porter4.3% ABV

This beer is our first attempt at a little known style commonly referred to as ?Baltic Porter?. It?s much more of a true black color than our Oatmeal Stout, which is a very, very dark red due to the roasted malts used. This illustrates that there really is quite a bit of overlap between stouts and porters. In the grist for Solidarity, we use a large portion of a relatively new malt called Midnight (from Briess Malting Company). We chose the name Solidarity in honor of the Polish social movement
Winter Seasonal Beer7.3% ABV
Brewer's Alley BreweryFrederick, MD
This spiced Christmas beer is an assertive ale with a deep red color. The rich malt flavor is balanced by a distinct hop flavor which comes through more in the taste than it does in the aroma. Spices were added during the brewing process, which give this beer pronounced aromatic properties quite different than those normally found in beer.
Irish Stout5.5% ABV

This style is our annual St. Patrick's Day release. It is a very drinkable beer; rich and complex enough to remain interesting pint after pint. The balance of this beer is towards the malt character, as opposed to the hop character. The nature of the malts used lend very distinctive roasted, caramel, and coffee-like notes to the beer. These are very pronounced in the aroma, but not overbearing in the taste or finish. The hop aroma is subtle and the hop bitterness is only apparent to balance .

In this beer, you will see a beautiful tawny brown color reminiscent of dark chocolate; smell the subtle aromas of roasted cocoa nibs; taste the wonderfully rich malt flavor made complete by the presence of complex chocolate notes; and feel the full texture of this delightful beer as you explore each and every sip. The memory of it will linger on your palate.

The Wedding Alt has a subtle hop aroma from the addition of hops directly to the fermentor. It has a clean and light taste, with a dry finish. The crisp dryness is derived largely from the use of Munich-style malts in the grist. Caramel and Chocolate malts were also used, resulting in a beer which is very easy to drink, but which also has some maltiness in the finish. Originally brewed as a special beer for the 1999 wedding of our Brewmaster, Tom Flores.
